The Most Popular Original Xbox, PS1 & PS2 Posts on Reddit in the Last Week

Following up with our Nintendo and Sega posts, we are now turning our attention to the original Xbox and Playstation, and the PlayStation 2.

Starting with the r/psx, and a meme about how the originals were made from sterner stuff.

Another redditor is suggesting their perfect Saturday night (listening to Lil Wayne is a pass from me) nd asks others for theirs (mine would probably involve Guitar Hero, and some Pro Evolution with 3 other friends).

The Best Reddit Sega Posts in the Last 7 Days

Each week we scour the internet to get the best, and most interesting stories out there in our quest to cover everything retro. We did our first post where we looked at the best of Reddit for Nintendo consoles (up to the Gamecube in terms of console generations) and now we will set our sites to what was hot in on the blue side of the retro gaming world.

Starting with r/Sega – one of the top posts was discussing the Skies of Arcadia potential return, but we were ahead of the curve there, so no need to post twice. One of the top posts was celebrating the backward compatibility of Sega consoles.

Genesis Does (backwards compatibility)! 😉
byu/Kingm0nkey inSEGA

r/SegaGenesis (aka Megadrive to the rest of the world) featured a candy (aka sweet) in a box of Toejam and Earl with the conundrum as to whether to eat it or not.

Should I eat it, guys?

Also, a mystery loot box was found at Walmart which looks very cool.

Saw this loot box at Walmart.
byu/krayhayft inSEGAGENESIS

The r/Megadrive sub was sadly sparse with most of the action being in its American cousin’s sub, the highlight being a case of mistaken identity.

that’s definitively bubsy
byu/Knucklesman12 inMegadrive

I am a big fan of the 32x so always on the lookout for new news for this oddity in the r/Sega32x sub , but it’s usually quite quiet. The main post this week was asking if the 32x had any exclusives worth buying it for (short answer, not really).

Does the 32x have any exclusives worth buying the 32x for?

In r/SegaCD some shared they completed Konami’s Snatcher and said it was Amazing (never heard of it personally, but my interest is piqued).

I just beat Konami’s Snatcher and it was AMAZING!

In r/SegaSaturn someone was asking for opinions on the controller (it’s a good one IMO)

r/dreamcast had someone showcasing a store demo kiosk.

Ink Console: Merging E-Reading with Interactive Gaming (Coming Soon)

The Ink Console is a very interesting project that links both gaming with e-ink technology. Harking back to the “choose your own adventure” books that I used to love, it is shaping up to be a modern take on this genre. The project now has its own Crowd Supply funding page, with more information coming soon as revealed on X today by Dana. Interested individuals can subscribe for updates and be notified upon the campaign’s commencement.

At pivotal moments in the narrative, readers make choices that influence the story’s direction, creating a dynamic reading experience. The device features a 7.5-inch e-ink screen with an 800 x 480 resolution, an analog joystick for navigation, and a 5000 mAh lithium-ion battery for extended use.

Beyond its hardware, the Ink Console offers an open platform with an easy-to-use development kit, enabling writers, artists, and game designers to craft their own interactive stories without coding expertise. The creators aim to make the entire project open-source post-campaign, providing resources like STEP files for case customisation and a comprehensive bill of materials.

Currently, a diverse range of concept Gamebooks is in development, spanning genres from thrilling expeditions to immersive sci-fi narratives. New Gamebooks can be added via the built-in SD card reader, ensuring a continually fresh experience for users.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Appoints Hideaki Nishino as President and CEO

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced that Hideaki Nishino will assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 April 2025. This leadership change aims to “maximise synergies” within the company, as stated in a recent press release.

Credit: Sony Interactive

Nishino, who began his career at Sony in 2000, currently serves as CEO of the Platform Business Group at SIE. In this capacity, he has overseen technology, products, services, and platform experience, in addition to managing third-party publisher and developer relations, as well as commercial operations, including sales and marketing of hardware, services, and peripherals.

In his new role, Nishino will continue to lead the Platform Business Group. Hermen Hulst, previously co-CEO alongside Nishino, will maintain his position as CEO of the Studio Business Group, reporting directly to Nishino. Hulst will continue to oversee the development, publishing, and business operations of SIE’s first-party content, focusing on creating games across multiple devices, including PlayStation consoles and PCs, and expanding video game IPs through PlayStation Productions.

This leadership restructuring coincides with broader changes within Sony Group Corporation. Hiroki Totoki, currently President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer of Sony Group Corporation, will step down from his position as SIE Chairman to become President and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, effective 1 April 2025. Lin Tao, Senior Vice President of Finance, Corporate Development, and Strategy at SIE, will also transition to a new role as Chief Financial Officer of Sony Group Corporation.

Reflecting on his appointment, Nishino stated, “Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation.”

These strategic leadership changes underscore Sony’s commitment to strengthening its position in the entertainment industry and fostering innovation across its gaming platforms.

The Atari Jaguar is getting a well-deserved shot of nostalgia, thanks to Songbird Productions. The company has announced reprints of iconic Jaguar titles, giving retro gaming enthusiasts the chance to own pristine, authentic versions of some of the rarest and most beloved games from the ’90s.

This limited-edition reprint brings back the 1995 classic in all its glory, featuring Bentley Bear and a cast of quirky racers. Licensed directly from Atari, this version includes a brand-new box, a meticulously crafted cartridge, and a full-colour 16-page manual—just like the original release.

The production run is set at 250 copies, split across two phases in February and April, with pre-orders opening Thursday 30th January. However, if demand surges, Songbird Productions is open to expanding the run, ensuring fans don’t miss out on reliving this underrated karting gem.

SpideX & Wormhole 2000: Classic Arcade Shooters Reimagined

Accompanying Atari Karts are SpideX and Wormhole 2000, two intense arcade shooters priced at $79.95 each. The Sims 1 & 2 Set for PC Comeback, Console Releases Uncertain

After years of limited availability, The Sims and The Sims 2 are making a return to PC. According to reports, both titles will be re-released digitally on January 31, 2025, each bundled with all their original expansion packs.

The original Sims game, launched in 2000, became a cultural phenomenon, allowing players to simulate daily life in unprecedented detail. Its sequel, The Sims 2, released in 2004, expanded on this foundation with enhanced graphics and deeper gameplay mechanics. Despite their popularity, both games have been challenging to access on modern systems, making this re-release a notable event for fans.

While the PC versions are confirmed, it’s currently unclear if these re-releases will extend to consoles. Given the games’ origins and control schemes, a console adaptation would require thoughtful adjustments to ensure a seamless experience.

This move not only preserves gaming history but also introduces these classics to a new generation of players. As the release date approaches, fans are eager to revisit the charm and challenges that made The Sims series a staple in gaming.
